چکیده

In general, the dengue ́s laboratory diagnosis aims: 1) laboratory, serologic and/or virologic infection ́s confirmation; 2) identification of circulating serotypes; 3) laboratory confirmation of severe and fatal cases; 4) support for epidemiological investigations to determine the levels of disease transmission and 5) performance of molecular studies in order to identify existing genotypes in the region (VORNDAM & KUNO, 1997). For adequate effectiveness of the laboratory diagnosis, it is required to take into account the appropriate time for blood sampling and to what type of test it is designated. This information is of great importance when interpreting the results.

Dengue with Normal Platelet Count and no Hemoconcentration: Automated Hematogram in Cases with Underlying Thalassemia

Dear Editor, Dengue is an important arbovirus infection. This infection can result in an acute febrile illness. The important hematological abnormalities included hemoconcentration and thrombocytopenia (1). Due to the decreased platelet count, the patient might develop petechiae and hemorrhagic complication. In endemic area, the presumptive diagnosis of dengue is usually derived by the cl...

Laboratory Diagnosis of Dengue Virus Infections.

Dengue diagnosis was one of the topics discussed at "the adult dengue" presentations. In this paper, a review is presented focusing on the main challenges of dengue laboratory diagnosis. Accurate and efficient diagnosis of dengue is important for clinical care, surveillance support, pathogenesis studies, and vaccine research. Laboratory diagnosis is also important for case confirmation. Laborat...

Use of dengue blot in dengue diagnosis: the Malaysian experience.

Dengue fever/Dengue haemorrhagic fever (DF/DHF) has been a public health problem in Malaysia with an endemic level of about 7 per 100,000 population per year. In 1990, Malaysia experienced its most severe outbreak of DF/DHF with a record total of 5,590 cases referred to the Division of Virology, Institute for Medical Research (IMR). Of these, 1,880 were confirmed serologically to be DF/DHF. The...

[Low concordance between early clinical suspicion of dengue and its serological confirmation].

BACKGROUND Early detection of dengue could help to prevent its complications. The usefulness of clinical criteria for diagnosis of the disease must be ascertained. AIMS To assess the correlation between laboratory and clinical diagnosis of dengue, done during the first consultation in the emergency room. To estimate the impact of clinical diagnosis on the initial medical treatment. PATIENTS...

Laboratory diagnosis of dengue virus infection: current and future perspectives in clinical diagnosis and public health.

Since no protective vaccine or specific treatments are available for dengue fever/dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), accurate diagnosis is critical for the early initiation of specific preventive health measures to curtail epidemic spread and reduce economic losses. Commonly used diagnosis methods for confirming dengue infection involve virus isolation, detection of virus antigen or RNA in plasma ...

Early diagnosis of dengue disease severity in a resource-limited Asian country

BACKGROUND Dengue is endemic throughout Cambodia, a country faced with significant health and economic challenges. We undertook a clinical study at the National Paediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh to evaluate clinical diagnostic parameters for dengue and predictors of disease outcome. METHODS Between September 2011 and January 2013, all consecutive inpatients aged between 1 and 15 years and pre...
